Chelsea Marlow Bishop
DCG: DC is a long way from your home state of Alaska, how did you end up here?
Chelsea: My interest in politics and policy started in childhood. In third grade I lobbied for bathroom passes – and changed my elementary school policy! That sparked a lifelong passion and in college I eagerly took a semester in DC and worked for then-Senator Begich (D-AK). After college, I came back to DC and started as a scheduler and worked in various roles on Capitol Hill before coming to DCG.
DCG: Why DCG?
Chelsea: The military has always been part of my life. Both of my grandfathers served in the military (Korean Era and World War II) and my father is an Army Veteran. I’ve always supported the military and wanted to contribute to helping Service Members and Veterans. Additionally, DCG has an amazing company culture. Even though many of us work remotely, it doesn’t feel like it.
DCG: You live and work in DC, what are some of your favorite things to do in the city?
Chelesa: I love to explore DC! I play guitar – so you will frequently find me at the 9:30 club, it’s my favorite place to see a show. My favorite (current) artists are Colter Wall & Tyler Childers, but my all-time favorite is Johnny Cash. I’m also into photography and trying to work my way through the Washingtonian’s Top 100 Restaurants. My favorite restaurant to date is Blue Duck Tavern.
DCG: What’s one thing about you that would surprise your colleagues?
Chelsea: I run a feminist book club called “Strong Spine” and we pair meetings with community activities that benefit women.
DCG: The all-important question, what’s your favorite aisle of the supermarket?
Chelsea: Easily the office supplies aisle. I live for new pens, but everything has to be gold. I love gold.
